TownSteel’s School Safety Program
As an engineering and manufacturing organization, TownSteel is known for its groundbreaking products such as its product leadership in ligature resistant door hardware products. More recently, TownSteel announced new products designed and engineered from the ground up specifically addressing the requirements for school safety and security with further new category product releases slated for later in 2024.
But the school safety product releases mark a new sea change for TownSteel. Recognizing that while application specific products are foundational for effective school safety, products are just one part of a required multi-layered for a more comprehensive approach to school safety.
The Comprehensive Strategy
The most effective school safety strategy is what we call a multi-layered approach, meaning multiple areas need to be addressed in parallel to build the strategy’s effectiveness. These include physical security, policy, process and community engagement. Learn effective strategies and how to get started.
TownSteel has made the following strategic additions to their commitment and contribution to school safety:
- Hiring a dedicated school safety team,
- Establishing organizational partnerships,
- Publishing educational content and helping drive awareness and commitment.
The TownSteel School Safety Team
TownSteel has hired two school safety and security professionals to its permanent employee base to focus on contributing to the larger efforts of raising awareness and promoting the requirements for school safety at industry events.
Brandon Faber
Business Development Manager – Campus Security Solutions
Brandon uses his background to create meaningful change, actively connecting with school safety organizations to build partnerships and leverage TownSteel’s capabilities in support. Furthermore, Brandon will engage with educational institutions across the nation to focus on awareness and action to help promote school safety.
His training to assess threats and identify potential risks will inform the development of security strategies for schools to anticipate and mitigate potential threats. His expertise in crisis management will also help design emergency response plans for schools, including protocols for lockdowns, evacuations, and coordination with first responders.
Brandon’s Background
Brandon brings over 15 years of law enforcement experience to his role, having served in various positions like Police Sergeant, School Resource Officer, Background Investigator, Field Training Officer, and Patrol Officer. This diverse background gives him a deep understanding of law enforcement operations, crisis management, regulations, and effective security practices.
Outside of his operational roles, Brandon supports professional growth, and fosters positive connections within the communities he serves. Brandon’s dedication to safety extends beyond his daily duties, as seen in his involvement in organizations like ASIS International,NASRO, and PASS (Partner Alliance for Safer Schools) where he serves on their technical committee.
Sam Sutherland
Business Development Manager – TownSteel School Safety Team Member
In his role with TownSteel, Sam helps forge partnerships, educate school staff, and provide security solutions for school communities. He is an effective motivator/coach who focuses on team building and having a clearly defined objective that builds “buy-in” from stakeholders.
Sam’s Background
Sam Sutherland, MBA, is a retired US Army Officer with twenty-five years of experience leading men in combat, and working directly with Federal, State, and Local Government agencies in safety and security. He has a passion for school safety, with a focus on identifying school vulnerabilities and risk assessments. He is a certified trainer in less lethal tactics and de-escalation.
Organizational Partnerships
There are already many organizations established to support and promote effective school safety with public and private school districts. However, these organizations also depend upon multiple inputs and TownSteel is able to bring technical advice and support to many of these organizations.
PASS Partnership
TownSteel has engaged with PASS, the Partner Alliance for Safer Schools where PASS invited TownSteel to partner as technical advisors on their board. We’re partnering with them because we support their mission and goal of making schools safer.
We’re also providing them assistance with marketing and promotion.
