Both locks feature status indicators that provide clear, immediate visual feedback to users. The indicators are identical on both sides of the lock, using clear text and color-coding (green for unlocked and red for locked) to provide reassurance that the door is securely locked or unlocked. Standard indicators feature a traditional green and red color scheme. However, customers have the flexibility to customize their indicators with alternative color and message combinations.

The indicators are large and visible from multiple angles, allowing classroom occupants and law enforcement to quickly determine the lock’s status without having to leave the room or approach the door. As noted, the Bored lock is the only lock of its kind to feature these double-sided indicators.

A simple motion on one side of the lock controls the message indicator on both sides, allowing for easy use in high-stress situations where fine motor skills may be compromised. It also features engraving that provides which direction to lock and unlock the door.

Quality and Price

Constructed from heavy-duty stainless steel, the locks are built to withstand years of use. Stainless steel is recognized as the most durable material for lock construction, ensuring that the locks provide trouble-free service over an extended period. This robust construction means that the Aegis locks can endure the daily wear and tear typical in a busy school environment. These locks are purely mechanical, offering reliability without the risk of battery failure or electrical issues.

The locks are designed to use existing cylinders and keyways, allowing schools looking to upgrade their security systems without the expense of purchasing new cylinders and having a locksmith rekey locks. They do not require new doors for installation as they fit into existing door preps and are compatible with other brands with minimal modifications. This allows schools to maintain their fire labels and warranties, avoiding additional expenses related to new door installations.

Aegis locks offer a combination of durability, reliability, and cost-effectiveness that make them an ideal choice for any school, regardless of budget.

The TownSteel Aegis locks are crafted with features designed specifically for the classroom environment with a focus on quality and affordability. Its flexible design addresses the comprehensive safety needs of the entire school ecosystem, from students and teachers to law enforcement officers.
